Vail’s inaugural Paper Lantern Project

VAIL — Art in Public Places will open Logan Luminescence in conjunction with the Vail Holidaze tree lighting on Dec. 22. Enjoy the unveiling of this ice sculpture exhibition, along with hot chocolate, entertainment and the community-wide Paper Lantern Project at the Vail Holidaze tree lighting from 5 to 6 p.m. in Slifer Square by the Covered Bridge in Vail Village. New this season, Vail’s Paper Lantern Project will add to the celebration of light this holiday. Partnering with the town of Vail Public Library, Art in Public Places is hosting free paper lantern making workshops, so you can join the illumination festivities in Vail Village on Dec. 22. Local artist Helen Hiebert, author of the books “Paper Illuminated” and “Playing with Paper,” will instruct participants of all ages on how to create your own paper lantern to bring to Vail’s tree lighting. “For millennia, cultures throughout the world have celebrated paper and light. Paper and light combine the functional with the decorative, providing a practical necessity, evoking a mood and illuminating works of art,” writes Helen Hiebert in her book “Paper Illuminated.” Like many other paper lantern festivals around the world, Art in Public Places coordinator Molly Eppard hopes…

Vail Snow Daze 2013 from December 9 – 15

The seventh annual Vail Snow Daze returns once again from from December 9 – 15, 2013. Come out for a day of skiing and riding on Vail Mountain, and then take a break to check out the sponsor expo village. Once the lifts close for the day, head over to Vail’s Ford Park for free concerts. Vail Snow Daze is the best way to kick off the skiing and riding season in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. In addition to the expo village and the free music, the week will be filled with après parties and events. At the sponsor expo village, a number of Vail Snow Daze sponsors will be offering gear demos. Try out that pair of skis you have had an eye on all year or the season’s newest snowboards. Visit the expo village during a break from riding and skiing. The expo village will be open during Vail Snow Daze from Friday, December 13 through Sunday, December 15 from 8:30 am – 3:30 pm, and will be located at the base of Gondola One in the Mountain Plaza.
