America’s Best Ski Pass Deal Just Got Much, Much Better

By | Vail Events, Vail Winter Events | No Comments

The Canyons ski resort, Utah’s largest and the nation’s fourth largest, was just acquired by Vail Resorts. Now Utah’s deep and famously dry powder will be part of the bargain-priced season Epic Pass. Photo: The Canyons, UT   It may still be early in the summer, but ski season will begin at major US resorts in just four months. For those in the know, it may well be a cheaper and easier ski season than ever before.   Earlier this year I wrote in this column about the various new multi-mountain and multi-destination ski passes on the market, and how they are transforming the lift ticket buying experience – for the better (Click here to see all the details).   The general concept is to combine mountains that would typically be skied in more than one trip, and even resorts under different ownership, into one pass. Traditionally a season pass was good at just one mountain and was really only beneficial to locals. This new generation is for ski and snowboard travelers, and many are good deals for those doing as few as two ski trips – or one long trip – even for skiers living thousands of miles from…

Good News in Housing Market

By | Vail Real Estate, Vail Summer Events | No Comments

The housing market continues to give up good news. Last week, research firm CoreLogic reported that home prices, including distressed sales, rose by 12.2 percent in May 2013 compared to May 2012. This is the biggest annual gain since February 2006. Tight inventories and historically attractive home loan rates have been the fuel behind the rise.  While this is still 20.4 percent below the housing peak set back in April 2006, it is news that we are still heading in the right direction.
