By | Vail Real Estate | No Comments

Tree-cutting permits are available from Forest Services, so you can turn this into a fun tradition with your family and friends this year! Bundle up in your warmest clothes, grab your work gloves and a saw and go for a hike to select your very own tree from the woods. Replace the yearly visit to the tree farm with the magical experience of tromping through the forest. Even though your tree will only last a month, the memory of cutting it down with friends and family will last a lifetime. You can pick up your permit for only $10 at Forest Service offices across Colorado. • Eagle/Holy Cross Ranger District — Offices in Eagle and Minturn carry the permits Monday through Friday during regular business hours. Vail looks strong through third quarter

By | Vail Real Estate | No Comments

The Town of Vail released its year-to-date third quarter sales tax revenues on November 6th. There was an 11.4 percent overall increase through September. Vail is producing much higher data than last year. Record snowfall last winter is to thank for part of the increase as well as marketing efforts that have increased international and summer business. Food and beverage leads the pack with a 16.3 percent increase through the third quarter. Lodging follows at 16.2 percent, while retail posted a 7.3 percent gain over the same period in 2010. The breakdown looks like this: Looking at the month of September, it appears that Lionshead was the place to eat and drink – perhaps a result of people celebrating sales-tax collection. Food and beverage showed a whopping 38.2 increase in sales-tax revenue over September 2010, with lodging up 21.7 percent, and retail up 19.3 percent. Overall, Lionshead showed a 25.1 percent increase over last year, collecting $122,030 in sales tax. Meanwhile, Vail Village saw some stout increases as well — 14.2 percent over September 2010. A Vote for Vail

By | Vail Real Estate | No Comments

Today is election day in Vail, and Vail’s election ballot contains a question that asks voters to use a $9.4 million town fund on three specific projects. Here’s some background of where that money came from and why it’s on this election ballot. The money has been sitting in the so-called conference center fund since 2005, when voters rejected its use for building a conference center in town. The money cannot be spent without voter approval, and the town of Vail received legal advice last year that says it must seek that voter approval now rather than let the money sit any longer. The town’s cites attorney-client privilege for not revealing why exactly the legal advice is to hurry up and get an approval. And with that, the time has come for voters to decide. If voters do not approve the use of the funds for the three projects — renovation of the Vail Golf Clubhouse, expansion and renovation of the Ford Park recreation fields, and upgrades at the Ford Amphitheater — the money must be returned to the taxpayers. Returning the money, however, doesn’t mean taxpayers will get a refund of any kind. The method for returning the money…
