Ever Vail Progresses

By | Vail Real Estate | No Comments

Vail Resorts’ proposed Ever Vail development is finally making some headway. After spending years with the Town of Vail’s Planning and Environmental Commission, Vail Resorts has finally received approval for key zoning changes and boundaries for the land where Ever Vail will be built. The Vail Town Council is scheduled to take on the zoning and subdivision portion of the development’s application on March 1. Once that portion is approved, Vail Resorts would submit applications for each of the 12 buildings in the project, which would be built in three phases. Vail Resorts continues to assure Town Council and citizens that their timing is right. “One of the top questions we get is why are we seeking entitlements now, with so much other inventory on the market,” said Kristin Kenney Williams, a Vail Resorts spokeswoman. “And we agree with that, but we’re seeking them now because we’re alrady in our third year of the approval process and if we waited for the markets to turn around and then launched the approval process, we would really be behind the curve.” The development comes with a $1 billion dollar price tag for good reason. It proposes a gondola from West Lionshead to…

Protect your Roof from Vail’s epic snowfall.

By | Vail Real Estate | No Comments

According to the latest snow report, 322 inches of that light, fluffy Colorado powder has fallen on Vail Mountain so far this season. That sounds like a huge amount of snow until it’s compacted and groomed on the ski runs into smooth corduroy for the enjoyment of all. The end result is about 5.5 feet of good base, perfect for lasting the entire season and carving those big, smooth turns that put a smile on your face in spite of the cold. The point is, when snow gets compacted, it becomes denser and a lot heavier. But using a machine isn’t the only way for snow to become compacted. It will naturally settle over time by itself into a heavy layer. And that snowpack will greatly increase the load on a roof. So a roof with only a couple of feet of snow on it could struggle to support that load. Roof systems are designed with many factors in mind, including the pitch, roof material, installation of snow fences and elevation of the home, just to name a few. As an example, in Eagle County, a home at an elevation of 7,500 feet should have a roof design capable of…

Local Athlete helps First Descents

By | Vail Real Estate | No Comments

Ryan Sutter, of “The Bachelorette” fame, is Competitor Magazine’s Celebrity Athlete of the Year, collecting his award at the Endurance Live Awards Gala at the downtown Hard Rock Hotel in San Diego. Sutter raised more than $100,000 for young cancer patients 2010 while completing 10 endurance events. Bob Babbitt, editor of Competitor Magazine, calls Sutter “one of the most versatile endurance athletes in the world.” Sutter completed 10 endurance events in 2010, inspiring more than 10,000 people to donate at least $10 each for First Descents’ 10-year anniversary. The goal was to use Sutter’s celebrity to raise awareness and money, and maybe help people develop a little more strength — both inside and outside. First Descents sends young adults to weeklong camps around the country, where they’re challenged in different ways. For example, cancer patients are stuffed into a kayak and guided down a river. “There’s no one to take it easy on them. Mother Nature doesn’t care if you have cancer. You have to find a way to get through it,” Sutter said. “By the end of the camp, it renews their spirit in the battle against cancer. They realize they can overcome daunting challenges.” For more information about…
